Davies Chuckwagon Grill / Lakewood, CO / June 2006

I love places like this. Relaxed, informal, and packed with regulars. Like photographing people in their living rooms.

A Contrast in Kitchens

Two excellent high-end hotel kitchens in downtown Denver.  One belongs to Edge in the Four Seasons Hotel, which is one of the newest, biggest, and best equipped in the city.  Visiting the other, The Palace Arms in the beautiful and ancient Brown Palace Hotel is a step back in time.  It is tiny and it serves a huge dining room and a big hotel.  It’s amazing to me what The Palace Arms crew do in the space they have.

Tao Tao Noodle Bar / Aurora / July 2011 & Chef’s Noodle Bowl / May 2005

When I pulled into the lot at Tao Tao this summer, something seemed familiar.  It turned out to be a location I photographed 6 years earlier when it was Chef’s Noodle Bowl.  I’ve posted images from both incarnations below. You can sense how the Tao Tao restaurateurs took a different approach to a Chinese noodle house than Chef’s did.

African Grill / Aurora, CO / May 2011

This place was a Ghanaian restaurant that I hadn’t heard of.  I lived in Ghana in the mid-90′s and I still crave those spicy stews and chewy meats.
